So finally we (me and my friend) landed in Cancun on Saturday, 14th March 2015 after 11 hours plus long flight from London, welcomed by long immigration and total chaotic custom clearance queues at Cancun International Airport. But we being Indians, we are pretty well trained with such chaos in India, so it was all good in the hood so far!!
As soon as we got out of the airport, we saw palm trees and our faces were hit by warm breeze. Now I can't tell you how good that feels when you're coming from cold Blighty where warm breeze and palm trees are non existent!!
Our pre-booked transfer cab was waiting and we got to our resort - Grand Park Royal. Here starts the fun now!!
This holiday so far had started from a very good note from London airport itself. We got all 3 seats to two of us in economy class so plenty of leg space. And wait, best part - since our resort was fully booked out on Ocean view deluxe rooms that we had paid for, the desk staff wanted us to pay little extra for an upgrade but we being stingy and already paid a bomb price for this resort, said not a single penny more. Since the staff had no choice, they gave us the free upgrade to beach facing Villa having a private access to the beach, a small private pool and a dedicated cabana on the beach outside our villa. Now I have stayed in plenty of 5 & 4 star resorts/hotel rooms during my travels but having a private villa with so many perks, MAN that I call a pure LUXURY!! (do you think I am flaunting now and sounding like a total snob, well then you're right! I actually don't care what you're thinking....hehehe). The resort was so so beautiful. Getting up to sun shining on your face and the sound of sea waves, I can't even describe that feeling in words here......mmmmm....( all I could have asked more was having a sight of Daniel Craig jogging outside the villa and may be actually coming to me....mmmm....yummmy...haha!!)
Day 2 - it started with bit late morning having late brekkie, going out for long stroll along the beach, splashing water at each other and then relaxing in cabana gazing over the Caribbean Sea for hours, chit chatting random girls gossip and ofcourse having a free cocktail and drinks served to us (our resort deal included an all inclusive food and drinks whole day throughout the stay with no extra charge!!)
The resort had loads of activities going on, so after having a shower and lunch etc, afternoon I did a bit of salsa dancing while my friend shot a video of the same! So if you fancy checking out the video, you can do that on my facebook page. Dancing is always fun even though I am not too good at it, unfortunately got two left feet!!
The resort had a poker event for the evening which we both had no interest in, so for us evening meant yet more strolls along the beach, eating- drinking, more sea gazing from the villa.
Day 3 - we had a whole day sailing trip booked from 9 am - 5 pm around Cancun National Park zone and visiting Isla Mujeres island (I hate getting up early on holidays but since we are Indians, we try to pack as much sight seeing activities as possible on a holiday and then sleep becomes a rare commodity. Basically you need another break to recover from a holiday tiredness. Hey ho!).
Time to put yet another pair of bikini on, get more tanned on the decks of cruise ship and ofcourse for me, means more sunrise tequila cocktails, HIC HIC! After couple of hours sailing, we got an hour and a half break on Isla Mujeres. We strolled on the island's main street for sometime and then ended up in a restaurant for ice creams because it was really hot. In the restaurant, we met up a lovely old Gujarati couple ( Malay and Hema from Southern California), had a great time chatting for an hour with them. Malay was really funny and Hema was trying to control his cheekiness (why we females are so cautious whole time and never let our guards down. Seems like this needs a whole another blog to write about!!). The topics of conversation ranged from how different me and my friend are in our personalities ( apparently I am a daring free spirit soul and my friend is a calm soul. Really??...I have doubts about my personality dissection but anyway!); travels; London- US living (Malay had lived in London before moving to the US); how Delhi- Bombay snobbishness differs even though the conclusion is same - we all are snobs in one or the other way except Delhi people accept it openly and Bombay people keep defying it! Am I not sounding a true Delhite....hahaha!
After lovely time with our gujju couple, we got back on the cruise ship with yet another short stopover for lunch at another tiny island. After lunch, we continued sailing for another hour or so and then got back to the resort around 6ish in the evening. We showered, changed and went out for dinner. This time resort had organised an evening with bit of dancing and fun games. Ofcourse I participated in both activities meanwhile sipping my white wine! Yet again if you fancy checking out the vidoes, you got to visit my facebook page where all video settings are public! Had a great time and again late night for us going to bed.
Day 4 - this was booked for scuba diving. So scuba diving was on my to do list since my school time and it went on "more determined wishlist" thing after seeing caves during Bermuda work trip and watching few movies on cave explorations. Though it was planned after taking swimming lessons first and then trying my hand on it. But when my brother dived in Maldives last month and said knowing swimming isn't necessary, I knew I am definitely doing this sooner than later (and my determination of diving definitely didn't come from ZNMD movie as I did check "making" of the movie to keep my expectations right!).
I wanted to capture each and every moment of my diving experience so have written a separate next blog for the same:-) and must say its a great experience to the different world! LOVED IT!
(You can ignore that blog if you're not into such things and don't want to get bored reading a long story!)
After finishing diving, time to say goodbyes to Mr V, my diving instructor and head to the resort with wonderful life long first dive memories and yet another evening of relaxing, beach strolls and packing for Miami.
Day 5 - since it was our last half day in Cancun, I felt bit heavy in heart while getting up that morning....I kept lying in bed and looking out at the sea and never wanted to leave the place.
We lingered longer for the breakfast enjoying every last minute spent in the resort.
And then came time to check out and the desk guy took our resort wrist bands off ( as part of all inclusive deal, the staff tie a permanent wrist band while checking-in, which is your identity being resort guests and allows you to eat/ drink anytime in the resort. The guests are not supposed to take it off or lose it as any additional band cost is US$75). I actually felt like the resort staff had divorced us by taking the bands off.....hmmm.....hey ho....we loved our stay in Cancun but now equally excited to see Miami!!
Totally recommend Grand Park Royal Caribe Cancun resort, if you ever plan to visit Cancun.
Now off we go to Miami.......next blog from there:-)
